Travel Tips & Dips

I just arrived back in Los Angeles from a trip to Australia and the jet lag was super tough this go around. Flying with my sister Jess, the fun took precedent over everything else. I had a glass of wine, ate plane food, and stayed awake for the whole 16 hour flight. This was an “extra cheese and port please!” kind of trip. I binge watched season 1 of Gossip Girl and Jess and I made sure we didn’t sleep a wink. I didn’t even meditate! ( home alone emoji). Then on our descent to landing I was enjoying a hot cup of coffee. I think I did every “dip” on this trip and the integration back to Los Angeles has proven to be more turbulent than usual.

I was constipated for 3 days after landing, found myself dehydrated and super off of my sleep schedule. I was feeling sad and depressed, unmotivated and sluggish. I had a few skin break outs, irritability, a couple arguments with the boo and my hormones felt a bit wonky too.

When Im on my A game, I tend to fast from food and only drink liquids while flying. I know, it takes discipline, especially on a long haul flight, but trust me its worth not feeling 3 months pregnant with kankles. To boost immunity, cut hunger and keep me sustained, I go for Brain Octane Oil, lemons, and pre-mixed mushroom tonics. And of course, I smash the water and add chlorophyll for optimal hydration. One of my best travel buds is my acupressure mat for circulation and you’ll often find me looking like a weirdo walking the isles or in some upside down pretzel pose at the back of the plane. One thing I really love about flying is that you literally feel like your suspended in a bubble between where you’ve been and where you’re going. I take advantage of this by self reflecting, journaling and setting intentions and I opt for a good read over screen time when I can.

Upon landing, I love to get into nature. I will jump in the ocean or put my feet in the grass so I can absorb sunlight and reset my circadian rhythm. When jet lag inevitably still hits and I find myself staring at the ceiling wide awake at 3am, with much resistance I don’t pick up my phone to scroll the latest on Instagram but instead I read a book with a soft light which always puts me back to sleep.

After a trip where I successfully do all the “tips,” I always feel excited, motivated and ready for whatever is coming on the horizon.

Although that trip with Jess was the most fun I have ever had on a flight, Im still questioning if it was worth the 2 week come down. So sorry Jess, next weeks trip to Europe, let’s balance it out a bit.
